CSS i.e. Central Superior Services is the biggest competitive exam of Pakistan. This exam is conducted once in a year. This exam is conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission Islamabad after clearing which the candidate is appointed for the job of Under Grade 17 of the Federal Govt. And this grade goes up to 22nd grade and its tenure is total 30 years. Officers selected through CSS become CSP officers and become part of the bureaucracy. After passing this examination these officers have the authority and perform their duties in the respective departments.

The civil bureaucracy was first introduced in the subcontinent by the British who were the first to introduce the competitive examination there. Earlier, only approved people managed the affairs of the empire, but the British brought with them the system that any competent person could occupy high positions of government on the basis of merit. This examination was called Indian Civil Service in the subcontinent but after the formation of Pakistan it was renamed as Central Superior Service.

Candidates who are selected after clearing all these stages are trained in Civil Service Academy Lahore. CSS written exams are conducted in various cities including Abbottabad, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Faisalabad, Gilgit, Gujranwala, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Larkana, Multan, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Sukkur.

Eligibility Criteria For CSS Exam

• Candidate should be a permanent citizen of Pakistan
• A minimum of bachelor’s education is mandatory to apply for CSS
• Age requirement is 21 to 30 years to apply for CSS But the age limit for government employees is 32 years
• All candidates can take the CSS test 3 times
• People from all classes can apply for CSS

Subjects of CSS

There are two parts to the CSS written exam, the first part consists of compulsory subjects. Which are total 600 marks.

• First of all, there is an English essay for which the time is 3 hours and the essay should contain at least 2500 words to 3000 words. Ten topics are given to the candidate out of which he can write an essay on any topic.
• Second is the precis and composition paper in which there is a 20 marks precis writing question in which you have to write a summary of the given paragraph and give a topic title to the paragraph. After that there is a question of 20 marks on Reading Comprehension along with a question of 20 marks on Grammar and Vocabulary. Apart from this, 10 marks of sentence correction, grouping of words, pair of words and translation are separate questions.
• The General Science and Ability paper has a General Science section of 60 marks and the remaining 40 marks are from the Ability section.
• At number four there is a current affairs paper in which any question related to current affairs can be added
• At number 5 there is a test of Pakistan Affairs which has a question of 20 marks on the domestic affairs of Pakistan. A question on Pakistan External Affairs of 40 marks and a question on Pakistan Global Issues of 40 marks are included.
• And the last sixth number is the paper of Islamic Studies in which can ask any question related to Islam.

Apart from this, there are 7 groups of optional subjects from which you can choose the subject of 600 marks according to your choice.
